“Be the Change.”
When I started high school my mom gave me a pen from her work with those exact words written on it.

My name is Jonathan Weyand and I am a student at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and the co-founder of Wardrobes for Warriors.

I strive to “be the change” every day of my life.  God has blessed me with a loving family and two incredible parents who sacrifice so much for me, and one of the ways that I feel I can honor Him is by helping other people.  In high school, I was a tutor for the National Honor Society and a three-year member of the student council.  In addition, I was an ambassador for new students and served on the
Shanahan Fund Board which is an organization committed to raising funds for financial-need students to come to Bishop Shanahan High School and remain a part of Catholic Education.  The committee is all about “students giving back to students”.  We raised money through phone-a-thons, donations, and a 5k walk/sprint.  As I entered my senior year of high school, I took on the role of National Honor Society President with the intention of serving the school through leadership. One of the larger projects that I ran as NHS president was the Daffodil Drive for the American Cancer Society.

I loved serving in my high school, but when I entered college, I had the goal of serving a broader community.  Brandon Karpowich offered me the opportunity of a lifetime—to begin a non-profit that suits our veterans for success.  My grandfather was a veteran in the  military and my uncle bravely served as a navy seal.  As a result, helping veterans is extremely important to me and it is something that I am passionate about.  I cannot wait to see the smile on another veteran’s face or the shake the hand of a hero. Brandon and I believe in our mission and we want veterans to know that there are people who care!

Some of my hobbies and activities include playing Upenn Sprint Football, public speaking, and I am a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Brotherhood.

Brandon attended Toms River High School North where he ranked in the top one percent of his graduating class of 600 students. In high school, he founded his first nonprofit, Volunteers R Us, which specializes in helping volunteers find the perfect place to volunteer at. He also founded the school’s first free SAT tutoring service and is a recipient of the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship as well as Mary Pat Christie’s Spirit of a Hero Scholarship.

Brandon was fortunate enough to attend Cornell University Summer College program for high school students in the summer of 2011 where he learned under the auspices of Dr. David Taylor about leadership in the business world. In addition, he credits the course as being a source of inspiration for making his own social impact on the world. Brandon finished the program with the fifth
highest grade in his class of 149.

Brandon has taken his passion for serving others to the
University of Pennsylvania and beyond. During his freshman fall semester, he had the privilege of working with the Veterans Upward Bound at the University of Pennsylvania to collect professional attire for veterans in need. Brandon and his nine other team members managed to collect over 600 suits and 1,200 articles of other professional attire from corporations such as Comcast, Goldman Sachs, Janney Montgomery Scott, Bank of America, and a few others. The project was a massive success and nearly 200 heroes were suited for success. Brandon was so
inspired by the veterans and their stories that he decided to continue the project with another Wharton student, Jonathan Weyand, and form Wardrobes for Warriors, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans realize their maximum career potential.

Brandon has a penchant for finance and statistics. He is a
member of the Wharton Trading and Investing Group and serves as the Philanthropy Chair of his fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa. He is also very active in Grace Covenant Church.
